EDI/Cultural Safety Framework

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

At the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre, we are committed to building a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for all youth, families, and staff. We actively work to challenge racism, discrimination, and oppression in all forms, and to create a space where everyone – especially individuals from racialized, Indigenous, and LGBTQ2+ communities – feels respected, valued, and supported.

We recognize that systemic inequities continue to impact access to care and health outcomes. We are committed to addressing these barriers through an approach grounded in equity, anti-racism, anti-oppression and cultural safety.

Our Commitment to Action

We are taking concrete steps to advance equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural safety across our organization, including:

  1. Using race-based data to better understand and respond to community needs
  2. Promoting inclusive hiring and equitable recruitment practices
  3. Providing staff training in anti-racism and cultural safety
  4. Offering client education on topics such as LGBTQ2+ inclusion and anti-racism
  5. Developing culturally responsive and culturally safe programs and services
  6. Applying an equity lens to policies, procedures, and strategic planning
  7. Strengthening partnerships with diverse and underserved communities

We know that words alone are not enough. We are committed to ongoing learning, accountability, and meaningful action to create lasting change – both within our organization and across the broader community.
