Elaine Dean

Elaine joined the Board of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre in September 2026, with a focus on communications and community development. On a personal level, Elaine lost her 20-year old son Chris in 2014 due to a tragic accident. As part of her healing she participated in grief programs run by the Ottawa Chapter of Bereaved Families of Ontario, eventually becoming a trained facilitator, Board member and Chair. Now as a DSYTC Board member, she would like to help Ottawa’s and Ontario’s youth live rewarding and fulfilling lives.

Professionally Elaine has taught communications, marketing and leadership courses at Algonquin College. She held senior communications and marketing positions in telecommunications before she set up her own business consultancy contributing to government and not-for-profit agencies.

Recently retired, Elaine is a yoga teacher who lives a healthy and active lifestyle here in Ottawa with her husband. She enjoys staying connected with friends and family.
