Derek Johnston – Vice-Chair

For the last 20+ years as a business owner and communications consultant, Derek has worked with hundreds of leaders to enhance interpersonal and public communications, oversee transformational change, and effectively manage controversy and crisis. Client organizations have included the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ottawa Heart Institute, Queen’s University, CBC/Radio-Canada and the RCMP.

As an Integral Professional Coach™ and Certified Resilience Coach, he helps executives, managers and emerging high performers to become more aware of their current approach to situations, to see new possibilities, and then build sustainable new skills to achieve results they never knew possible.

For more than 10 years, Derek served as a regular instructor on executive development workshops at the Canadian Police College. He has been a guest lecturer on the University of Ottawa Executive MBA Program, a media relations instructor at the FBI Training Academy (Budapest, Hungary), a moderator and facilitator at Canada’s preeminent sport leadership conference, and a presenter at multiple U.S. conferences hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Before launching Face Value Communications Inc., Derek worked as a broadcast journalist, government strategist, and senior advisor to the Commissioner of the RCMP. He is a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television.
